My friends and I have decided to book at one of the hotels here in Siem Reap to escape the blistering heat. It was so hot in Siem Reap that week and all of us felt that we could all chip in and book a room (with AC) for a few days. And after browsing Agoda for a few minutes, we found an affordable hotel where we spent a few days.
Breakfast is free and our lunch and dinner were usually also inside the hotel since we’re all lazy to go out. Here are some of the dishes that we had in this hotel.
Cambodian Lok lak
Lok lak is stir fried cubed beef (marinated) served on a bed of fresh vegetables (cucumber, tomatoes and lettuce) with egg on top (some restaurants don’t add egg though). There’s a dipping sauce as well made of lime juice seasoned with Kampot pepper and salt. The beef was not thoroughly cooked it’s still a bit pinkish on the inside but surprisingly, it tasted so good. The dipping sauce worked well with the (medium-rare) beef.
I’m a big fan of Amok and I frequently eat Amok whenever I go out for dinner. I love the mild taste of the Cambodian curry together with the aromatic smell of lemongrass and kafir lime. I prefer Chicken Amok though than Fish Amok. But we ordered fish since we haven’t tried Fish Amok in the past.
Fish and Chips
Yeah this is not a traditional Cambodian dish but we’d love to have some fries and some fried food so we ordered Fish and Chips as well. It was really great and we really enjoyed eating this together with the Amok and Lok lak.
Have you tried Lok Lak and Amok? Give it a try when you visit Cambodia!
